Who's Your Data?

Whos-Your-Data

WiFi has become the predominant way people use the Internet. It's convenient but it has bandwidth limitations affected by distance and barriers. This can be overcome with proper network implementation. It's all about throughput, how much data can get through your network in a very short time.

First of all your home must have the correct quantity and placement of wireless access points (WAPS or APs). Using boosters to try and stretch the coverage area of a WAP results in loss of bandwidth (about half) and unsightly dongles plugged into power outlets. It's better to have hard-wired WAPs in the proper locations to provide house wide coverage at high bandwidth, including outdoor spaces.

All products on the WiFi network compete for available bandwidth. It makes sense to remove any items from the WiFi network that can be plugged into hard-wired data ports; such as TVs, some streaming devices, and desktop computers. This provides the highest possible bandwidth for these devices and leaves more WiFi bandwidth available for the things that need to work wirelessly; such as tablets, smart phones, and laptop computers.

If you are building a new home or remodeling an existing one, your TV locations should all have a data port hard wired to your network hub. It will eliminate "tiling" or "freezing" that you may experience when streaming over your WiFi network to your TV. Streaming high definition audio/video signals requires more bandwidth than any other activity on your network, so putting TVs on a wired connection will make the most improvement for your WiFi network, which no longer has to handle the demands of video streaming.

Everyone experiences issues with their WiFi network. This will get worse as we encounter higher bandwidth demands in the future, such as streaming 8K video and adding more smart devices to your home. Make your connected life more reliable by having a professional design and implement a wired and wireless network that will future-proof your home for technology.
