What Is Low Voltage?

What-Is-Low-Voltage-3

Technically, it's an electrical system that operates at 50 volts or less. What does that mean? Speaker systems, video distribution, computer networks, doorbells, garage door openers, home security sensors, thermostats, and landscape lighting all fit this description. Does that mean all low voltage contractors do all those things? No. Some of these items are commonly supplied by an electrician, who is technically a medium voltage contractor. Garage door openers, doorbells, and landscape lighting would be examples of this, although sometimes we do these things too. The lines are blurry.

Most low voltage companies began as audio/video companies, but as the Internet Of Things took over, low voltage companies were forced to acquire network skills and adapt to the new world of streaming audio and video. Lighting control also migrated to the low voltage industry as companies like Lutron and Crestron realized that the programming skills and client interaction required for these systems were a better fit for the A/V companies who were already programming complex control systems for their traditional product categories.

Low voltage is a term that has common usage in the building industry, but few people outside the industry know what it means. Even people inside the industry are often unclear what it means. It beats Audio/Video/Home Automation/Home Theater/Network/Lighting Control company, but not by much.

Electronic Services & Concierge provides all the typical categories of low voltage systems with a special focus on home automation. That focus drives us toward simplicity in a complex environment. We realize that if a client can't conveniently use their technology when we're not around then the installation is a failure. We use control systems like Crestron, Control4, and Savant to bring multiple technology systems under a single user interface. Then we use automation to make a series of events happen with a single button push on a smart phone, tablet, or dedicated touchscreen. Some systems can be simplified to the point where they don't require a separate control system. It depends on the size of the system. In every case, we deliver the best, most reliable low voltage systems that fit within the client's budget.
